73's TO CELEBRATE 10th ANNIVERSARY OF 2015 SCHMALZ CUP WIN

It will be 10 years since the Essex 73's last captured an Ontario championship and this season, the club plans on welcoming back those players and staff from the 2014-15 team.

Essex captured the Great Lakes Junior Hockey League title with sweeping victories over Mooretown and Dresden, and then a six-game thriller over Amherstburg.

In the OHA quarter finals, they took out the Exeter Hawks in four straight games, and in the semi finals, they defeated the Ayr Centennials, 4-1.

That setup the Schmalz Cup final where the 73's would meet the Port Hope Panthers. Not many people had Essex winning this series, but after they jumped out to a 3-0 series lead, they were determined to capture its first Ontario title since 2009.

Port Hope made it interesting, coming back to tie the series and take it to game 7, in Port Hope.

Essex was up for the challenge as goaltender, Noah Hedrick, had the shutout win in goal, and forward Jordan Ryan had the lone goal of the game as Essex won onthe road, 1-0.

Other players on the team that year included Wall of Honour inductee, Scott Bromley, Matthew Hebert, Tyler Scott, Adam Gairian, Michael Vierra and William Stadder.

Essex plans on celebrating the event Friday, Nov. 15th when they face the Lakeshore Canadiens on the 3rd annual Frank Matthy's Alumni Night Game.
